I decided to create THE THREAD JOURNAL. alongside my PR work in the interwoven interiors, design, art and architecture sectors - to be a well of simultaneous stillness and creativity from which to tie together and share my innermost musings, practices, learnings and ideas that serve to both guide, and light me up.

Working with creative designers, artists and architects for over 10 years, I am inspired on a daily basis by the power of cultivating authentic, everyday beauty to foster a sense of homecoming and sacred space.

This is an invitation to take up a little more space, reclaim the connection to yourself and your place in the world.

**EMERGING** 🐚🌷✨🪶🌸🌤️
.
My written letter this week speaks to the underlying feelings of discomfort in the in-between, the unseen and ‘not enoughness’ within mothering, as I hope to shift those perceptions into creating a life of fullness 🐚
.
Now four years into the metamorphosis of matrescence, I am feeling the discomfort in this life chapter of winterspring, a tentative reemergence whilst navigating the contrast between what is expected and what is true for me 🪶
.
I made the choice for my children to be with me for much of their preschool years. A choice I know I am very fortunate to be able to make, but at the same time isn’t the easy option…✨
.
Mothering is a visceral experience of expanding beyond the edges of ourselves, of becoming one with another, of peeling ourselves apart again and re-learning how to be. It is as though the messy haze of mothering cannot be understood, harnessed or contained by our societal structures — instead they exist to squeeze us back into our past lives; to undermine us if we try to step into a bold new way of being; or indeed deplete us if we dare to dance within both worlds 🌷
.
Whilst knowing that the work I am doing as a mother is of utmost importance to me, our family and, collectively alongside every other caregiver, it is a radical act of hope for the future of society — the pervading feeling of not enoughness in a wider societal context has seeped into my consciousness 🤍
.
I hope that soon I will have the conviction to answer the enquiries into the way I am spending my time, unapologetically — by talking to the quiet consideration and discernment required to craft a life that is filled with work that lights me up from within, whilst honouring my role as a mother. I hope to forge a creative way of being that doesn’t neatly box me in or deplete me, that allows for the wildness and the fullness of life 🌳

I hope you are all doing well and finding your bearings in April…
.
It is a month that can feel anything but gentle with its wild moment-to-moment unpredictability (today so warm and windy?!) but there is sweetness in noticing the buds of tulips getting ready to open in the garden and the beginnings of bluebells unpeeling in the woods 🌱
.
Perhaps strangely, it is this noticing of the unfolding changes that provides me with an anchor — there is a coexisting truth of both longing and comfort in the transience of the seasons and I have been thinking about how this plays out at home 🏡
.

**DANCING WITH THE DAFFODILS** 🌼💛✨

Happy Easter everyone 🐣 As part of a new series, I am writing flower oracles inspired by the wisdom, myth and folklore associated with a flower for each month (more excuses to read the flower fairies as research material…!)✨
.
As one of the earliest flowers to bring colour after the stark, dark days of winter, daffodils symbolise transition, rebirth and new beginnings. The sight of drifts of daffodils rising from the earth is inordinately uplifting within the in-between of winterspring. The flower holds a sense of resilience too, as it is often bowed by March winds but learns to sway in the squall🌦️
.
We are now experiencing the beginnings of a second flush of daffodils in the garden. The chiffon balletic beauty of the ‘White Petticoats’ have all but faded, giving way to the gentle exuberance of the ‘Cha Cha’, as if by well-rehearsed choreography (rather than what was actually a dose of good luck). The towering yet delicate Narcissus ‘Cragfords’ are reaching the end of their tenure in the ground and a new (as yet unidentified) variety is on its way, I hope we will soon be spellbound by the ‘Thalias’ 🌼

**A CEREMONY OF SOFT EMERGENCE** . At the spring e

**A CEREMONY OF SOFT EMERGENCE**
.
At the spring equinox, night meets day in eggshell equilibrium of (nearly) twelve hours of light and twelve hours of darkness everywhere in the world, before here in the northern hemisphere, we yield to the growing strength of solar power ☀️
.
It is the tipping point when we move from our inner world of dreaming towards taking gentle action, with the growing daylight hours and strength of the sun to support us in our endeavours 🌷
.
@laurensarahbarber and I have co-created A Ceremony of Soft Emergence in spring, it is filled with gentle guidance, oracle and omen, prose and poetry — inspired by cues from the living world, the celestial skies, goddess mythology, folklore and more… in the form of music, meditation, written and spoken word, as we welcome the tipping of the light at the spring equinox and the celebration of Ostara 🌸

**WINTERSPRING** 🤍🌷❄️🌦️✨
.
I have been exploring the in-between time we find ourselves in as we edge our way towards the spring equinox but without having fully emerged from winter — and the cues we can take from the back and forth of ‘winterspring’ 🤍
.
The beginning of spring can leave me feeling bewildered. The pearlescent promises of snowdrops have all but faded and yet we are waiting for spring to begin. March is a time of transition, contained within a bigger shift in the season, making it feel wayward at times ✨
.
There are whispers of warmth as I sit on the step by our back door with a cup of coffee, but there is also dousing cold rain as we walk to nursery through mists and plentiful puddles 🌦️
.
Perhaps there will be a measure of back and forth for us too, an ebb before the flow. Just like the world around us, we can take our time and wait for the perfect conditions to unfold 💫
.
Winterspring signifies a slow, gentle wake up — the sort I once basked in and for now can only dream of. Leisurely and delicious, we can bide our time before we draw the curtains fully open, allowing our eyes to adjust and find the joy in the potential as we prepare, wait and nourish ourselves 🩷
.
