WHAT IS SACRED SPACE?

"An interior is the natural projection of the soul."

Coco Chanel

It is here that my worlds come together and yield to one another.

HOME.

The concept of ‘home’ is central to my life and I am lucky to work with influential curators and creators of beautiful spaces who are a constant source of  inspiration. For me, the idea of ‘home’ is an evolving one, it includes the provision of shelter, comfort, connection but also an everyday beauty that enriches our lives

It is something that we can all relate to, our relationship to home can be traced back for thousands of years firstly as a refuge and basic need but also as a symbolic space that references culture, ritual and self-expression. Since the very first primitive huts and dwellings – we all long for a sanctuary that represents us fully, a nest where we can retreat and be unapologetically ourselves.

SACRED SPACE.

To me, making a space sacred means making the space intentional, treating it with reverence and dedicating it to yourself and the people who use it. This way, a home becomes more than a physical space but instead is a feeling, a place you yearn to be and have an emotional connection to.

We live in a time where it is easy to become disconnected from a sense of place, not to mention ourselves. Boundaries have blurred as the outside world comes into our homes via tools provided by the digital age. At the same time, technology has allowed us to work from anywhere in the world including our own homes and so, how we choose to surround ourselves has a rippling effect on many layers of the interwoven elements of our lives.

TIME.

Technology has increased the pace of our lives, we expect to have access to things momentarily and are then onto the next thing. Creating a home requires time to become fluid, as handcrafted, soulful pieces take time to make, art that resonates takes time to find and ultimately we become shapeshifters of our own space, as our tastes evolve and we change. Slowing down to tune into the present moment and using time to create moveable layers creates flow in a space and in our lives.

HOMECOMING.

Experiencing beauty is healing when we feel illuminated, in awe and alive. This coupled with a strong sense of rootedness to a place allows us to feel a sense of homecoming, giving us a stable grounding to meet and yield to life’s challenges and our own unfolding.

This is an invitation to take up a little more space, reclaim the connection to yourself and your place in the world.
