INSIDE with Higher Self Care.

Sunlight through window
Meet Tasha Anderson, founder of digital platform Higher Self Care, the latest Insider – a series that explores the innermost ideas and practices of individuals who embody a connection to their surroundings at home and in their work.
Tasha and I connected first over our similar paths, both working in PR and with a passion for a connection to the unseen and the mystical. Tasha’s passion manifested in Higher Self Care – a beautiful online haven that brings together the expertise of a high-vibe community of specialists in healing practices to explore how we can care for not only our physical selves, but also our subtle, energy bodies.
We chatted over a warming cup of tea and connected on so many levels from our joint love of the quieter corners of LA and Ibiza, to modernist design and the roles that our homes play in our overall wellbeing.
I asked Tasha about the relationship to her space on a personal level and how this connection is intrinsically linked to the many layers of self-care that facilitate living out our lives to the fullest…

Describe who you are and what you do.

My name is Tasha. I founded a digital platform called Higher Self Care that promotes self development and shines a light on people who work in intuitive, mystical and creative practices.

What led you on your path?

Women in my ancestral lineage have always turned towards the mystic; I was given crystals as a child, my aunt is a tarot reader and healer, and my grandmother would do simple spells around the home.

I was born in London and spent the rest of my childhood in the Surrey countryside. Having a childhood surrounded by nature really fed my imagination. I had some really dramatic experiences this year and I hit a bit of a wall. However this rock bottom really knocked me onto this path, as it felt like the only choice. Since then I have been growing my intuition and self awareness- it’s been a life-changing journey I can’t reduce into simple words.

Where is home for you?

A leafy road in Camden, North London – it provides both an easy connection to the urban world as well as some calm respite from it.

How would you describe your home?

Calm, cosy and connected to nature- I have plants everywhere and skyline views of East London. For the interior, mid-century modern woods combine with soft Berber furnishings but the space also has a Japanese feel. It was important for me to have a South facing home so natural golden light pours into the space every morning.

What does homecoming mean to you?

Becoming connected back to myself. My home is a space for me to turn inwards, to pull tarot cards and get quiet with myself.

What is the first thing you do when you return home?

I change into something comfortable- usually my Japanese linen trousers and knitwear. I usually light a candle and sit with a cacao and Reishi drink from Indigo Herbs looking at the evening view, or put a podcast on.

How do you unwind in your home?

I have long baths inspired by Mama Medicine‘s ritual baths. Plenty of magnesium flakes, flower petals, eucalyptus and crystals where possible. I have lots of water in my natal chart so I feel very at home and can spend hours in there. I try and emulate a spa feel in my home with candles, incense and music to make the space sacred.

Do you have a sacred space or favourite place in your home?

My bed. I recently bought new bedsheets in proper cotton and it’s improved my sleep immensely. It’s the most delicious place where I do all of my thinking, reading, talk to my crystals and do self-Reiki healing.

What makes a space sacred?

Sacred is a mindset you offer a space that you have intentionally made your own and blessed it.

How does your connection to space play a part in your work?

I’m in the process of ‘shedding’ many material things that no longer serve me in my home, and each time I get rid of something like this I have a positive experience elsewhere in my life.

What practices/rituals do you carry out in your home or ‘sacred space’?

For me it’s all about cleansing and clearing at the moment. I have been trying to be more mindful about using white sage bundles since it’s tough to find the right supplier with a positive harvesting practice. Instead I cleanse the space with cedar wood, and do a lot of visualising practices with white light. Keeping the space clean is also very important to me, not just on an aesthetic level but ensuring no dust has collected under beds etc that creates stagnant energy.

What are your favourite tools for grounding in the home?

Cedar wood, palo santo, Koshi wind chime.

What are your home aspirations?

I love modernist design and architecture from the 1950-1970s. I wish to build a modernist house or renovate an old property into a modernist home, but somewhere surrounded by wilderness and nature.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

I feel very at home in Los Angeles, North and East Ibiza and Rio. I recently took a solo trip to the Scottish highlands and the land felt very familiar to me.
