PISCES SEASON interiors – how to add softness and flow to your home.

“Be softer with you.

You are a breathing thing.

A memory to someone.

A home to a life.”

Nayyirah Waheed

I am excited to be updating this series of ‘Astro Interiors’, an exploration of how the characteristics of each of the zodiac signs play out in interiors.
It is something that I first got into back in 2019 as a way of bringing together my love of interiors and astrology. It’s safe to say that my world (and the world..!) has changed a lot since then but these two interests remain and I think we can gain something from exploring the nature of each sign and how the characteristics can be used to bring different qualities into our homes.

Pisces: 19th February – 20th March
Planet: Neptune
Element: Water
Symbol: The fishes
Palette: Watercolour, pearlescent, pastels
Characteristics: Intuitive, dreamy, soft, sensitive, romantic, spiritual
A Pisces interior: calming, soft, open-plan, fluid

Pisces season signals a time to bring a romantic, soft-focus to our everyday lives and the space around us. Watery Pisces asks us to dissolve divisions that exist within us and our surroundings.

Layout

Open-plan, free-flowing, sociable space is a key element for a Pisces interior. Open up doors to create a fluid indoor/outdoor living space with room to exist simultaneously internally and externally.

Katie @theherehome designed the bespoke ply shelving to fit how they live as a family, as well as bringing a focal point, whilst allowing you to see through to the other side. The perfect combination of lightness and warmth

Embrace curves and softened boundaries with spaces separated by sheer curtains, arches, sliding doors, room dividers and moveable panels. I love the arched shower (and freestanding curved bathtub, an eBay find!) in the bathroom @the_flint_house.

Back @the_here_home, during a renovation project, Katie divided the loft space into two separate rooms, with these beautiful bespoke plywood folding/sliding doors made by local furniture designer, King & Webbon.

In their loft space, Katie has divided the space into two separate rooms with these beautiful bespoke-made plywood folding/sliding doors. I also love the curves of the Faye Toogood Roly Poly chair. The smooth, rounded, voluptuous shape was inspired by motherhood.

Palette & Finishes

A Piscean colour palette is made up of pastel watercolour tones drifting from nude, oyster, blush tones to amethyst, turquoise and teal, infused with a hint of iridescence.

Soften walls and edges with specialist finishes such as tadelakt (a waterproof plaster finish that was originally popular in ancient Morocco) and polished or bare plaster, like in the main bedroom @townley_terrace.

Paint colours like Cotta by Atelier Ellis have a soft and cocooning feel, especially when used for the entire room (including ceiling and woodwork) like in our bedroom, pictured below.

Furniture & furnishings

Fill transitional spaces with voluptuous proportioned curved furniture pieces with feminine lines, like the Roly Poly chair by Toogood. (featured in the image of the loft @the_here_home above). The smooth, rounded shape was inspired by motherhood.

Curved sofas, such as the one in the living room @goodboneslondon, accompanied with sheer linen curtains soften bright light to create an ethereal atmosphere and comfortable place to sit.

Finishing touches

The finishing touches come in the shape of lustrous pieces that look as though they have been plucked from the bottom of the sea – much like the sublime ceramics by Elvis Robertson and Joanna Ling.

Create a softly lit ambience with lighting pieces created from natural materials, such as the Sea Anemone Shade by Chalk Path Studio. Made from recycled paper and limestone, the shade has a beautiful texture and undulating curves that create an organic shape. Chalk Path Studio founder Amy was inspired to create the shade during an afternoon spent rock pooling and spotting sea creatures twinkling in the sunlight.

Lastly, adorn the space with artworks and vessels celebrating the fluency of water, indelibly connected to the flow of the female form.
