CAPRICORN SEASON interiors – how to lay foundations for comfort.

“You are not in the mountains. The mountains are in you.”

 John Muir

Capricorn season brings an earthy grounding and a measure of reality after the vivacious, freedom-seeking Sagittarius season
Capricorn is the chapter to lay the foundations for action in the series of Astro Interiors – an exploration into the experience of the zodiac expressed through the eyes of architecture, interiors and most importantly, the home.

Creating a  foundation for intentions, action and comfort.

Capricorn, symbolised by the mountain goat, signifies movement like adventurous Sagittarius that precedes it, but this time in a much more measured and grounded way. Capricorn style conjures up a slow and steady quest to reach the summit of the mountain, whilst finding a sweetness within the journey. This forward-moving motivation is a well-timed refreshing reminder as we begin to plant seeds of intention for the year and decade ahead.

Capricorn invites us to take matters into our own hands, by embarking on a pilgrimage of inspiration and creativity, to assert our independence, strength and tenacity in order to reach the top. When we get there, we are invited to check in to our own personal boudoir space and to indulge in stillness and self-care rituals, in the knowledge that we deserve every moment.

Creating a haven.

Being an earth sign, a connection to comfort is not overlooked by Capricorn on the path to achieving ambitious goals. Despite the hard climb, Capricorn finds shelter in Alpine-style chalets filled with toasty open wood fires, sheepskin-laden aged leather chairs, silken bedlinen, cable-knit blankets and soft waxy candlelight.

Creating cosiness with colour.

Walls and ceilings painted in deep colours of nightshade, squid ink or cacao enhance the all-encompassing cosy factor. Follow the mantra of interiors journalist and blogger Kate Watson-Smyth to bring in “something new, something old, something black and something gold” and you will be set for Capricorn season.

The glamorous finishing touches.

Capture Capricorn’s joyfulness in the task at hand by romanticising the every day with majestic jewel-tones, rich textural layering, tailored detailing and a touch of crisp celestial sparkle. Glamorous textures of velvet in deep rose red, jade green and aubergine offset with ivory shearling provide an interior sanctuary away from the outdoor expedition. Soften the striving with layers of resplendent drapery, polished mid-century furniture pieces and gemstone-encrusted finishing touches.

Capricorn elevates the mundane to the magical with its commitment to seeing the best in everything and urges us all to honour our own power and potential.

Striking the balance.

It is the season to balance our efforts with a contentedness in the process, grounded in a depth of timeless sumptuousness and a celebration of earthy, organic glamour.

According to Bess Matassa, resident astrologer for The Numinous, Capricorn is a “high-end hotel of a cosmic season, complete with succulent room service feasts and ‘do not disturb’ boundaries…A personal room with a view, reviewing all that’s gone down from a regal remove, and taking a timeout to power up from the inside out”.

Capricorn season brings together the self-sufficient survivor and the hardcore hedonist within us in a glorious tribute to the appreciation of little triumphs in the twisting turns of life.

“Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home”.
