LEO SEASON interiors – how to create a home of bold self-expression.

“93 percent stardust, with souls made of flames, we are all just stars that have people names”.

Nikita Gill

We’re back in the solar power of Leo season, the next chapter in the Astro Interiors series – an exploration of the zodiac expressed through the eyes of architecture, interiors and most importantly, ideas to harness the sign’s energy at home.
Where Cancer season gave us permission to retreat back into the depths of ourselves, Leo asks us to step out into our own sparkling light of individuality. Represented by the courageous, regal lion, Leo season celebrates a synchronisation of inner and outer worlds, aligning our souls with a renewed purpose and new aliveness.

The shift from the depths of watery, shell-like Cancer into the glistening, golden, glamorous fire of Leo season can take some adjusting to and I have certainly felt it to be far from smooth this year. Ruled by the sun, our brightest star, Leo is a fire sign that governs the heart and leads us to connect to our passions, desires, inner wisdom and the strength that we have been gathering in the inward-looking season that went before.

This is the astrological season to step into the joy of self-expression, radiate your majestic individuality, connect to your worth and throw anything that does not align with your highest self, into the fire.

The sun & the fire element.

Solar power and the element of fire are at the helm during Leo season. The sun represents our sense of self and how we portray ourselves to the outside world. Contrastingly to introspective Cancer season, there is an external, active, masculine energy in Leo season, where we are encouraged to step into our personal power. For Leo, appearances are important as they are an outward representation of the realness that lies within.

At home, adorning the outside of the house is a vehicle of unapologetic Leonine self-expression – whether it be with intricately patterned tiles like the colourful buildings in Lisbon, or blooms draped over balconies or framing a brightly coloured front door.

The front door is often the first impression of any home and according to Feng Shui, the front door is considered the mouth of universal energy and the way that the rest of the home receives its ‘chi’. You can use the rules of Feng Shui to choose the most auspicious door colour for your home which is determined by the direction that your door faces.

North relates to the water element – use blue, black, watery colours

East relates to the wood element – use green, brown, woody tones

South relates to the fire element – use yellow, purple, red, magenta, coral

West relates to the element of metal – use white, grey with a hint of metallic

For the ultimate Leo finishing touch, add a statuesque lion door knocker to enhance the powerful energetic impact on those who enter your home.

Outdoor living.

Getting outside into a garden, onto a balcony or ideally a sun-drenched rooftop terrace is a key element of a Leo way of life. An outdoor space centred around a fire pit for entertaining and outdoor living celebrates the sociable, extroverted side of the lion.

Baked terracotta toned surroundings that play host to a tropical, fragrant garden on the roof made up of palms, fig trees, cacti and succulents makes the perfect setting for a barbecue of strong flavours, accompanied citrus infusions, followed by ice cream concoctions. Together, paying homage to the exuberant fire element, the outward-looking tendency and the desire for playfulness and joy.

Embellish & adorn.

The sun is strongly associated with bright, vibrant light and bold colour. Combine sumptuous jewel tones with glowing golden hues and sun-kissed shades for a glamorous look, there is no such as thing as too much in Leo season.

Favour golden tones with patina or in deeper shades close to olive, mustard and amber with a warm, burnished feel to avoid too much sheen. Whilst yellows in every hue from pale lemon sherbet to rich egg yolk bring uplifting optimism to a space.

Fire element & a sun-filled home.

Unsurprisngly, the sun is the all-important motif in a Leo-inspired home. From celestial and sunbeam mirrors to embroidered bedlinen of sun rays and an abundance of freshly picked sunflowers – all bring the vitality of a Provençal landscape inside to create a radiant feel in the home.

Lastly, Leo is not one to shy away from making a statement so use this as an opportunity to be playful and creative with your choices and select showstoppers for your space. Leo thrives on being brave which often pays off. Where most people avoid outlandish choices for fear they will become bored of them, Leo recognises that by playing it safe is often where the boredom lies.
